The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Task Force) has apprehended 19 suspects allegedly involved in trafficking narcotic drugs during coordinated raids across Gowon Estate and adjoining streets.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Task Force, CSP Adetayo Akerele, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lagos by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr. Abdulraheem Gbadeyan.
Akerele revealed that the suspects were arrested during operations targeting criminal hideouts and black spots in the area, as part of ongoing efforts to maintain environmental order and public safety across the metropolis.
“During the operation, our officers uncovered a disturbing cache of illicit substances, including Colorado, Indian hemp, narcotics, and other controlled drugs,” Akerele stated. “Several bags of hard drugs were also discovered concealed in the boots of vehicles parked in the vicinity, highlighting the scale and organization of the criminal activity.”
He reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to eliminate criminal elements and dismantle operations that endanger the peace and well-being of Lagos residents.
“This operation reflects our zero-tolerance policy toward illegal activities that compromise the security and serenity of our communities. All suspects will face the full weight of the law as investigations continue,” he said.
The Task Force also reiterated the importance of community vigilance, encouraging residents to participate in the agency’s “See Something, Say Something” initiative by reporting suspicious activities to the authorities.
According to Akerele, the raid marks the fifth in a series of strategic enforcement actions designed to eradicate drug abuse, trafficking, and hooliganism within the area.
“The public must remain alert and support law enforcement agencies in our shared mission of achieving a crime-free and peaceful society,” he added.
