The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says its swift intervention in two separate accidents on Sunday saved five lives.
General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said in a statement that the first crash occurred at Olohunsogo Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, when a Toyota Camry (FST 450 HG) rammed into a stationary Scania truck (LSR 243 YC).
He said LASTMA operatives rescued the driver and a passenger, both critically injured, and rushed them to Ademola Hospital, Ijanikin. The truck driver was apprehended, while police officers provided security. The vehicles were quickly cleared to prevent traffic gridlock.
The second accident happened near Stadium Hotel, Ojuelegba, when a commercial Mazda bus (KRD 141 YH) veered off course and hit the BRT lane median. The driver and two passengers were found unconscious but survived after prompt rescue.
Bakare-Oki praised the professionalism of LASTMA officers and police during the emergencies. He urged motorists to obey speed limits, avoid reckless driving, and maintain their vehicles regularly to prevent avoidable tragedies.
