The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to motorists, emphasizing that smoking, eating, or drinking while driving is a traffic offense under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.

This warning comes amid increasing concerns over road accidents across the state.

Penalties for Offenders
– Vehicle Impoundment: Offenders risk having their vehicles impounded.
– Imprisonment: Up to three months imprisonment.
– Community Service: Six months of community service, depending on the severity and judicial outcome.

Why This Law Matters
The law aims to prevent distracted driving, ensuring safety on the roads. Eating or driving with one hand can lead to three months imprisonment, while smoking while driving attracts a ₦30,000 fine.
