The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Lion Building Detached, in collaboration with officers of the Lion Building Police Division, has arrested a suspect accused of terrorizing residents and passersby along Broad Street, Lagos Island.
According to the Corps, the arrest followed a distress call received at about 12:17 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Lagos Island East regarding the activities of displaced persons sleeping on Broad Street.
Upon swift response, security operatives apprehended one Mr. Matthew Chukwu, a native of Enugu State, who was allegedly found in possession of a cutlass. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect often disguised as a mentally unstable person while spying on unsuspecting targets, particularly women, around 2:00 a.m. before attempting to attack them.
Other displaced individuals who had converted parts of the street into makeshift homes were also removed from the area.
The suspect has been handed over to the nearest police station for further investigation and possible prosecution. Authorities said inquiries are ongoing to uncover more details surrounding the case.
