Military investigators are reportedly interrogating the Managing Director of a Federal Government agency in the South-South region over alleged financial links to a purported plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to multiple intelligence sources, the agency head was taken into custody after allegedly transferring a substantial amount of money to a former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, who is suspected of being one of the financiers of the planned coup.

Investigators are said to be examining the transaction to determine whether the funds were intended to support the alleged plan to forcefully change the government.

“The Managing Director made a significant transfer to Sylva, and investigators suspect it may have been connected to the coup financing. He is currently being questioned to explain the purpose of the payment,” one source disclosed.

Security operatives reportedly raided Sylva’s Abuja residence over the weekend, during which his younger brother, Paga—who serves as his Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs—and his driver were arrested.

The former Bayelsa state governor, who was outside the country at the time, is said to have suspended plans to return to Nigeria after learning that some of the alleged coup plotters had been apprehended.

Efforts to reach senior military spokespersons, including the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, and the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, were unsuccessful as they did not respond to calls or messages.

Earlier this month, the military had confirmed the arrest of several officers over breaches of service regulations and acts of indiscipline, citing grievances related to stalled promotions and perceived career stagnation.

However, security sources suggest that ongoing investigations are now probing deeper into possible political or financial dimensions linked to the alleged plot.
