The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intercepted counterfeit Malamal Forte malaria drugs valued at over ₦1.2 billion in Lagos State.
In a statement released via its official X handle on Friday, September 12, 2025, the agency said the fake medicines were discovered in a warehouse in the Ilasa-Oshodi area of the state. The drugs, concealed in 277 cartons, were falsely labelled as Diclofenac Potassium 50mg.
Investigations revealed that the counterfeit products were illegally imported from Shanxi Tianyuan Pharmaceuticals Group in China and fraudulently declared as spare parts in their shipping container.
NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public health, stressing that the operation reflects ongoing efforts to eliminate counterfeit and substandard medicines from circulation in Nigeria.
“With the support of the Presidency and the Federal Ministry of Health, we will continue to ensure that only safe, effective and quality medicines are available to Nigerians,” the agency stated.
The seizure, NAFDAC added, is part of its sustained nationwide crackdown on illicit pharmaceuticals threatening the health and safety of citizens.
