The Nasarawa Government has stated that it has trained journalists on the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine to prepare them for the statewide campaign.
The Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NAPHDA), led by Executive Secretary Dr. Usman Iskilu-Saleh and represented by Director of Immunisation Mr. Ismaila Oko, explained that the training brought together key stakeholders.
Others who spoke included Dr. Ibrahim Tanko, Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism; Dr. Kayode Olawuyi, Consultant for the MR campaign; Hajiya Hassana Ibrahim, WHO Technical Assistant; and broadcast journalist Mr. Kalu Idika.
The officials said the training aimed to equip journalists with accurate knowledge, correct misinformation, and promote public trust in the vaccine.
They added that the exercise would protect children and pregnant women, reduce outbreaks, and build herd immunity.
They noted that the MR vaccine would be launched on October 4, with the campaign running until October 14, before it becomes part of routine immunization.
According to them, the training held in Lafia, while vaccinations will take place at selected health facilities across Nasarawa State.
Officials also stated that health workers will administer the vaccine free to children between nine months and 14 years.
They said WHO and NAFDAC have approved the vaccine, while translated messages and media coverage will support wider community acceptance.
