The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service says it has rescued nine people from a fire outbreak at Afriland Tower, a six-storey building on Broad Street, Lagos Island.

Deputy Controller-General of the agency, Mr. Ogabi Olajide, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.

He said five of the rescued victims were successfully revived, while efforts were ongoing to resuscitate the remaining four.

“A total of nine victims have been rescued, with five individuals successfully resuscitated. Several others escaped unhurt while resuscitation efforts continue on four others,” Olajide stated.

The fire, reported at exactly 1:38 p.m., was swiftly responded to by fire crews from Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu stations.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the blaze started in the inverter room in the building’s basement, with smoke spreading rapidly across several floors and engulfing the structure.
