The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has indicted the pilot and co-pilot of an Air Peace aircraft for testing positive for hard drugs and alcohol after a runway excursion at the Port Harcourt International Airport.
The incident occurred on Sunday, July 13, 2025, when the aircraft veered off the runway shortly after landing. While no casualties were reported, the event prompted an immediate investigation by the NSIB.
According to findings released by the Bureau, toxicology tests conducted on the flight crew confirmed the presence of drugs and alcohol in their systems, raising serious safety concerns about crew conduct and compliance with aviation standards.
The NSIB stated that the investigation is ongoing and further recommendations will be made to strengthen regulatory oversight, enforce stricter compliance, and prevent a recurrence of such incidents in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
