The Lagos State Government has intensified its environmental enforcement efforts with the arrest of Mr. Ogunbadejo Olawale, a resident of No. 25 Ajiboye Street, Alapere, Ketu, for unlawful waste disposal.

He was shown in a vital video disposing bags of refuse from the boot of his Toyota Venza car by the roadside, near a bridge.

Mr. Olawale was apprehended during a joint surveillance operation carried out by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) task force.

The arrest followed credible community intelligence and surveillance, which revealed the suspect was dumping refuse indiscriminately in public spaces.

Authorities say the act directly undermines the state’s campaign for a cleaner and more hygienic environment.

“This arrest underscores our zero-tolerance approach to environmental violations,” the government said in a statement. “We are fully committed to enforcing environmental laws and ensuring that public spaces remain clean and safe for all residents.”

The suspect will face prosecution under relevant state environmental laws. The Lagos State Government also commended members of the community for their vigilance and support, emphasizing that public cooperation is crucial to achieving a sustainable and resilient city.

Officials reaffirmed the government’s ongoing dedication to environmental protection through enforcement, community engagement, and sustained public awareness campaigns.
