…say no consensus candidate was adopted
Chairmanship aspirants and party stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), have called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate an alleged bribery allegation involving the lawmaker representing Ifako Ijaye 2 Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Olotu, over a purported endorsement of Mr. Mobolaji Sanusi, as the party’s consensus candidate for the council.
The aspirants also accused a former member of the House of Representatives, James Owolabi, of working in concert with Olotu to foist Sanusi on members of the party.
Both Olotu and Owolabi are strong allies of the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, the aspirants disclaimed reports that Sanusi has been unanimously endorsed as the “consensus candidate”, describing such as a “complete fabrication,” with “no iota of truth and credibility.”
The aspirants and party stakeholders accused Obasa and Olotu of allegedly disbursing a sum of ten million naira to some influential party leaders in the council in order to railroad the choice of Sanusi down the throats of party members.
The aspirants further called on the leadership of the party in the state to ensure a free, fair and transparent process in the election of the chairmanship candidate amongst the 17 people that have obtained nomination forms to contest.
Reiterating their call for a fair process anchored on justice, the aspirants noted, “The good people of Ojokoro deserve transparency, fairness and the freedom to choose their leaders through a credible democratic process. The true will of the people must be allowed to prevail.”
