The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at the age of 90, barely one year after ascending the revered throne.

The 43rd Olubadan died in the early hours of Monday, just two days after marking his 90th birthday on July 5, 2025.

Oba Olakulehin was officially crowned in July 2024, following the death of his predecessor, Oba Moshood Olalekan Ishola Balogun, Ali Iwo II. He received the staff of office from Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024.

His brief but significant reign is being remembered for its quiet dignity and continuity of tradition in Ibadanland.

With his passing, former Oyo State Governor, Chief Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, is next in line to ascend the throne, in line with the traditional succession arrangements of the Olubadan chieftaincy system.

Official statements and burial arrangements are expected from the Olubadan-in-Council and the Oyo State Government.
