A fatal accident on Tuesday claimed the life of a passenger and left two others injured after a commercial bus collided with a truck at the Idi-Iroko inward Ogolonto axis of Ikorodu Road, Lagos State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), which confirmed the incident, said the Mazda bus (number plate LND 490 SD) rammed into a laden truck (number plate EKY 121 YJ) while recklessly competing for the right of way along the busy carriageway.

One male passenger, who was sitting at the doorway of the bus, was flung out on impact and crushed under the rear tyres of the truck, dying instantly.

Two other passengers, a male and female, sustained multiple fractures. They were rescued by LASTMA officials and rushed by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) to the Ikorodu General Hospital for emergency treatment.

LASTMA said the remains of the deceased were released to his family by the police, while personnel of the Owutu Police Division provided security during the rescue and evacuation of the crash vehicles.

The accidented bus and truck were later cleared from the road to ease traffic congestion in the area.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commiserated with the victim’s family and cautioned motorists against reckless driving. He urged drivers to show restraint and adhere to traffic rules, especially along congested corridors such as Ikorodu Road.
