The Osun State caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027 and reaffirmed its support for Governor Ademola Adeleke to seek a second term in 2026.
This was contained in a communiqué issued after a strategic meeting held on Monday at the Government House in Osogbo. The party leaders said their decision followed extensive consultations with traditional rulers, civil servants, retirees, religious leaders, market unions, party members, and residents across the state.
Amid swirling rumours of Governor Adeleke’s potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the PDP caucus stated clearly that the idea “did not originate from the governor” and lacked support from a majority of APC members in Osun.
According to the communiqué:
“The majority of APC members in Osun State are opposed to the idea of Governor Adeleke’s defection, which was not initiated by the governor himself.
Some APC leaders, driven by entrenched interests, have shown hostility and resentment toward Governor Adeleke, going as far as making derogatory remarks about him on social media and national television.
Meanwhile, many PDP members in the state are unhappy about the idea of defection but have pledged loyalty to Governor Adeleke regardless of his political direction, in recognition of his leadership and accomplishments.”
The communiqué emphasized that both the PDP and Governor Adeleke enjoy overwhelming popularity across the state, “surpassing any other political party”.
To solidify the party’s stance, the PDP caucus directed all party structures in the state to widely disseminate the resolutions and support the continued implementation of the administration’s Five-Point Agenda.
The communiqué was signed by Governor Adeleke and key PDP figures, including former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, Senator Lere Oyewumi, Bamidele Salam, Moruf Adebayo, Lukman Mudashiru, Soji Adetunji, Lanre Oladeebo, Clement Akanni, Speaker Adewale Egbedun, Sunday Bisi, Oluwole Alabi, Lasun Yusuf, Tajudeen Oladipo, Muyiwa Oladimeji, and Fatai Akinbade.
Other signatories include Kazeem Akinleye, Sarafadeen Awotunde, Teslim Igbalaye, Ibukun Fadipe, Bunmi Jenyo, Ganiyu Olaoluwa, Muniru Raji, Niyi Owolade, Bola Ajao, Olawale Rasheed, and Wale Oladipo.
