Pastor Tunde Bakare, founder of the Citadel Global Community Church and former vice-presidential candidate in the 2011 elections, paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos on Wednesday.

The meeting, held at the State House, was said to focus on pressing national issues and the state of the country. Pastor Bakare has been vocal in recent months, calling on President Tinubu to implement immediate and strategic interventions to steer Nigeria out of its current crises.

During his April State of the Nation broadcast at his church, Bakare warned the President against “playing God” and criticized the current administration for “steering the polity adrift.” He urged Tinubu to adopt a more humble and people-centered approach to governance.

“Stop playing God,” Bakare stated bluntly. “The current administration is steering the nation off course. It is time for this government to embrace humility.”

Despite his strong words, Bakare clarified that his criticism was not meant to condemn but to offer guidance. “I disagree with the President, but I do not wish him to fail,” he added.

The visit comes amid growing calls from civil society and religious leaders for a coordinated programme to restore stability and public trust in governance.
