The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that its elective National Convention will be held in Ibadan, Oyo State, from Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, November 16.

The announcement was contained in an 11-point communiqué issued after the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Thursday in Abuja.

Reading the communiqué, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said preparations for the convention would be finalized at the next NEC meeting scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025. He added that the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary have been mandated to formally notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the upcoming convention.

To ensure a transparent and credible process, the NEC also approved the composition of both the National Convention Planning Committee and the Zoning Committee.

Ologunagba further stated that the party’s leadership is pleased with the peaceful resolution of internal disputes, describing it as a testament to PDP’s commitment to unity, reconciliation, and democratic dialogue. He reaffirmed the party’s readiness to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a firm stance against political defections, the NEC directed the National Working Committee (NWC) to initiate legal proceedings to reclaim legislative seats currently held by former PDP lawmakers who have defected to other parties.

“In its determination to preserve all electoral mandates freely given to our party by Nigerians, NEC directed the NWC to immediately commence legal action to recover the seats of all serving National and State Assembly members elected on the PDP platform who have since defected,” the communiqué stated.

Citing Sections 68 (1)(g) and 109 (1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the party argued that defectors automatically forfeit their seats since no division or merger currently exists within the PDP.

The NEC also expressed strong disapproval of reports that some members are fraternizing with rival political groups, urging such individuals to recommit to the party’s ideals.

“NEC expressed serious concern and frowns at the reported participation of some party members in the activities and meetings of another political party. NEC calls on these members to show renewed loyalty and commitment to the PDP, noting that the law does not permit dual party membership,” it read.

Nonetheless, the leadership reassured such members that efforts to address their grievances were yielding results and encouraged them to remain within the party’s fold.

Reiterating its opposition status, the NEC declared the PDP as the most viable platform to deliver a people-centered government and rescue the country from what it described as the “rudderless and insensitive” APC administration.

“NEC reaffirms the PDP’s unwavering belief in democracy and its readiness to lead the movement to oust the APC and restore purposeful governance come 2027,” the communiqué concluded.

The NEC adjourned its meeting and scheduled its 102nd session for Monday, August 25, 2025.

Among the party leaders present were the governors of Ogun, Zamfara, Plateau, Taraba, Osun, Adamawa, and Bauchi states. Also in attendance were members of the PDP National Working Committee, the Board of Trustees, and notable figures such as Chief Bode George, Chief Eddy Olafeso, Labaran Maku, Senator Bukola Saraki, Seriake Dickson, and Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
