Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a woman for allegedly killing a 65-year-old man in the Abule-Egba area of Lagos State.

The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, describing the development as a major breakthrough in the investigation of a recent homicide case reported at the Oko-Oba Police Division.

According to Hundeyin, the police received a report on March 29 about the murder of an unidentified man at a service apartment in Abule-Egba.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that on March 27, around 5:20 p.m., an unidentified woman, in the company of the deceased, rented a service apartment. A few hours later, she left the premises with the man’s car and valuables, informing the housekeeper that she would return shortly,” Hundeyin said.

However, during a routine check the following day, the housekeeper discovered the lifeless body of the man inside the apartment.

“At the scene, investigators recovered an empty syringe, two empty cans of malt drink, and two bottles of water,” Hundeyin added.

The victim’s body was evacuated and deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) mortuary for autopsy, while detectives launched a manhunt for the suspect.

After weeks of intelligence gathering, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) arrested the woman in the Oko-Oba area of Lagos at about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26.

“The suspect confessed to lacing a malt drink with a poisonous substance, which led to the victim’s death,” Hundeyin stated.

He further revealed that investigations have since established the identity of the deceased. The suspect remains in police custody as further investigations continue to unravel the full circumstances of the crime.

Hundeyin assured that updates on the case would be provided as they unfold, emphasizing the Lagos State Police Command’s commitment to the safety and security of all residents.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, also warned that individuals involved in criminal activities would be identified, arrested, and made to face the full wrath of the law.
