The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports of increased kidnapping on Gbagada Expressway, labeling them as fake and recycled.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, urged residents to disregard the rumors, which have been circulating on social media.
This is not the first time the command has debunked this specific rumor. It initially surfaced in January 2024, was debunked, and then resurfaced in September 2024, only to be debunked again. Despite this, the fake advisory has reappeared in March 2025.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered a review of the security architecture in the area to ensure the safety of road users and residents.
The command has also urged residents to remain security conscious and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or the command’s control room.
The police are taking steps to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for spreading the fake news, which is intended to cause unnecessary fear and apprehension among Lagosians.
