The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for gunmen suspected of killing a legal practitioner Ifeanyi Iloakasia and two others who were returning from a court session in Ekwulobia, Orumba North Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued on Thursday in Awka by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the victims were ambushed shortly after leaving High Court II, where the lawyer had secured bail for a defendant in a murder case.

Preliminary investigations suggest the victims were trailed and later double-crossed by the assailants before being attacked at Egbebelu village. Two of the lawyer’s companions were shot; one died while the other is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.

A red Toyota Camry, believed to belong to one of the deceased, was recovered at the scene. The surviving victim has been debriefed and has provided vital information aiding the ongoing investigation.

In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, visited the crime scene alongside senior officers and has ordered a thorough investigation. Tactical and intelligence teams have been deployed to track down the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.
