The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspected cult members following a deadly confrontation between rival groups that left one person dead in the Onireke and Isashi areas of Badagry.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Lagos, noting that the arrests were made after a swift and coordinated police response that prevented further bloodshed and restored calm to the affected communities.
“Police responded to a distress call around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, reporting a clash between rival cult groups in Onireke and Isashi,” Adebisi said.
According to her, tactical teams and detectives arrived promptly at the scene, rescuing three injured victims who were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, one of the victims was later confirmed dead by a doctor at the Badagry General Hospital.
Adebisi explained that a subsequent raid in the area led to the arrest of five suspects allegedly involved in the attack and killing.
Items recovered from the suspects include one locally made pistol, two pump-action guns, 52 live cartridges, two expended cartridges, a Toyota Avalon (registration number KTU 610 JB), a laptop, mobile phones, and other weapons.
She added that the suspects are currently in custody and will be prosecuted once investigations are concluded, while efforts continue to track down other gang members still at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers for their professionalism and prompt action. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eradicating cultism and other violent crimes across Lagos State.
Jimoh also urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
