The Nigeria Police Force has suspended the enforcement of the controversial tinted glass permit following a court order halting the exercise.

Spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development during an interview on AIT in Abuja on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

According to Adeh, the suspension took effect immediately after the court order was officially received.

“Information reaching me now is that the order has been received, and the enforcement of the tinted permit is now on hold,” she said.

The suspension follows widespread public criticism and legal challenges questioning the legality, transparency, and alleged extortion linked to the permit process.

Responding to claims that the permit served as a revenue drive for the police, Adeh dismissed such allegations, clarifying that all payments are made directly into the federal government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA).

She explained that the tinted glass permit was introduced for security purposes after reports indicated that some criminals were using vehicles with tinted windows to conceal their identities and evade detection.

“It is basically because of security concerns. Some criminals were using tinted vehicles to commit offences, making it difficult for law enforcement to identify suspects,” she noted.

Adeh reiterated the police’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, adding that enforcement would remain suspended until the court concludes its deliberations.

“We are waiting for the verdict; we are not against the courts, and we will continue to wait until we get a verdict,” she said.
