The Lagos State Government has reopened the Ogudu-Ifako Bridge to traffic after completing major repair works on its expansion joints ahead of schedule.
A section of the bridge was closed on June 28 for construction, with officials projecting a 100-day timeline. However, the works were delivered in just 73 days, restoring full vehicular movement on one of Lagos’s busiest corridors.
Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, and Commissioner for Transportation, Seun Osiyemi, led a government inspection team to certify the project on Tuesday.
Daramola explained that defects on the bridge’s expansion joints, if left unattended, could have endangered motorists and compromised the structural integrity of the bridge. He credited the early completion to the cooperation of contractors, security agencies, and Lagos residents.
“We undertook this repair to guarantee safety. Thankfully, with the cooperation of the people, we have been able to deliver ahead of schedule,” Daramola said.
Osiyemi commended Lagosians for enduring the partial closure, assuring that the state government will sustain its infrastructure renewal drive. He highlighted similar projects completed at Odo-Iyalaro and Apongbon bridges, with upcoming works planned for the Maza-Maza axis.
Residents and commuters expressed relief at the reopening, with many noting that it would ease congestion, reduce fuel costs, and shorten travel time.
The Ogudu-Ifako Bridge is now fully reopened, restoring smooth movement along the critical transport link.
