Around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on patrol in Ikoyi arrested a suspected vandal, Mohammed Ibraheem, aged 25, along Alfred Rilwane Road by Glover Road. He was caught with five neatly folded protective mesh panels used to guard the road median. His accomplice, however, fled the scene upon sighting the police.

Later the same night, at about 2:00 a.m., another RRS patrol team on the Third Mainland Bridge apprehended a 30-year-old ex-convict, Segun Akinola.

During questioning, Akinola made a startling confession: “I woke up past midnight and stole my friend’s bicycle. I am riding it to Ondo State.”

Acting on his statement, officers accompanied him to Muslim Road, Banana Island, where his friend was found sleeping at a bus stop around 2:27 a.m. The friend confirmed that Akinola had indeed stolen his bicycle.

Both suspects have since been arraigned in court. Authorities say the stolen bicycle will be returned to its rightful owner once prosecution is concluded.
