Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State governor has mourned the passing of the chairman Oladotun Olakanle, the Chairman of the Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ikeja.
In a condolence message made public by Gboyega Akosile, the governor’s spokesperson, Sanoe said: “Olakanle was a loyal man party man and an invaluable asset to the All Progressives Congress. There is no doubt he will be missed by the political class…”
The council leader was 54. He died leaving the community in deep mourning.
Known for his dedication to public service and commitment to the development of the Onigbongbo area, Olakanle’s sudden death has come as a shock to many.
According to those close to him, Olakanle died in the early hours of Saturday. While the exact cause of his passing has not yet been confirmed, sources close to the family indicate that he had been active and in good spirits just days before.
Notably, Olakanle had attended a funeral event on Thursday, October 31 – in honor of Dr. Adesola Taiwo, a well-regarded member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The funeral was attended by numerous prominent figures from Lagos State and the APC, where Olakanle reportedly paid his last respects to Taiwo, a colleague and friend.
The unexpected nature of Olakanle’s death has left family members, friends, and colleagues in a state of disbelief. His contributions to the Onigbongbo LCDA and his presence in the community made him a well-respected figure whose loss will be deeply felt. Residents and political associates have started paying tributes, describing him as a leader who was not only passionate about local governance but also deeply invested in the lives of his constituents.
