Sanwo-Olu restates commitment to sports, as Lagos hosts maiden south-west games

Lagos State is gearing up to host the maiden edition of the South West Games, scheduled to take place from March 26 to 28.

The event will bring together athletes from six states in the region, including Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti, to compete in various sports activities at top-notch facilities like the Teslim Balogun Stadium and the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reassured participants and organizers that the Lagos State Government will provide safe and adequate sporting facilities for the games.

He emphasized the significance of the event in promoting social inclusion, youth engagement, and healthy rivalry, while also creating opportunities for young people to explore their creative potential.

The South West Games 2025 Committee, led by its President, Dr. Olanrewaju Alfred, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for his inspirational leadership and the state government’s efforts in developing key sectors and providing top-class sporting facilities.

– Traditional African Games: Events like Ayo-Olopon and Abula that celebrate the region’s rich cultural heritage.
– Adaptive Sports: Inclusive events that provide opportunities for athletes with disabilities to participate and shine.
