The first phase of the hostel blocks at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo is set for commissioning.
The 10,800-bed hostel project, an ambitious initiative, facilitated by the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represents a significant stride in improving student welfare and addressing accommodation challenges at the institution.
The announcement was made by Tokunbo Wahab, the former Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, under whose watch the project was initiated and executed. Wahab who is now Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources described the project as one of the most ambitious undertakings during his tenure, highlighting its execution through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) arrangement. The collaboration involves seven reputable investors.
“Through the grace of God, the unwavering support of the Lagos State Office of Public-Private Partnerships, the relentless efforts of LASU management led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, and the cooperation of key stakeholders, the first phase of this landmark project has now been completed,” Wahab wrote on Tuesday.
The 10,800-bed hostel is poised to be a game-changer for students at LASU, alleviating long-standing accommodation challenges. The project exemplifies the state’s commitment to leveraging public-private partnerships to address critical infrastructure needs in the education sector.
Wahab expressed pride in the project’s progress and its readiness for commissioning by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, stating: “Proud of the work done here and to have been a part of this special one.”
As the university prepares to commission this milestone development, students, staff, and stakeholders eagerly anticipate the improved living conditions and enhanced academic experience the new hostel will bring.
The completion of this phase sets the stage for further advancements in the institution’s infrastructure and positions LASU as a leading center of academic excellence in Nigeria.
