‘Seven Doors’ shines at 11th AMVCA, Femi Adebayo and Chioma Chukwuka win big

Femi Adebayo and Chioma Chukwuka lead the winners at the 11th AMVCA with “Seven Doors,” a historical epic that captivated audiences and critics alike

The historical drama series Seven Doors, created by Femi Adebayo, emerged as one of the biggest winners at the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), held on Saturday night at the prestigious Eko Hotels in Lagos.

The gripping series clinched three major awards, further cementing its place as a standout production in Nollywood. Femi Adebayo was honored with the Best Lead Actor award for his powerful portrayal of Adedunjoye, a revered king navigating the complex tides of tradition and power. Chioma Chukwuka won Best Lead Actress for her compelling performance as Amaka, the resilient queen and Adedunjoye’s wife.

Seven Doors also took home the award for Best Music/Score, applauded for its rich, evocative soundtrack that enhanced the series’ emotional depth and historical setting.

The AMVCA ceremony, renowned for recognizing excellence in African film and television, also celebrated lifetime contributions to the industry. Legendary actors Sani Mu’azu and Nkem Owoh were honored with the Lifetime Achievement Awards, acknowledging decades of influence and dedication to African storytelling.

Director Kayode Kasum was awarded the Trailblazer Award for his innovative and genre-defying approach to filmmaking, inspiring a new generation of storytellers.

In her address, Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and Channels, West Africa, at MultiChoice, reaffirmed the AMVCA’s commitment to industry growth and talent development.

“We are committed to capacity building, evolving the industry, and distributing the best local content across the continent,” Tejumola said. “This year’s AMVCA is special as it highlights emerging talents who will drive Nollywood forward over the next decade.”

She noted that over ₦9 billion has been invested in the awards over the past 11 years and highlighted initiatives such as the MultiChoice Talent Factory, a one-year programme designed to train young African filmmakers.
