A tragic road accident at Ibeju Bus Stop along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos State has claimed six lives, including that of a minor, while nine others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, on Monday. He said the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Federal Medical Centre morgue for identification.
The crash involved a blue Volvo FL6 truck and a white commercial bus, with preliminary investigations attributing the cause to excessive speeding and reckless driving.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commiserated with the families of the victims and urged motorists to adopt defensive driving habits, especially during the “Ember Months,” when traffic accidents are typically more frequent.
“Speed thrills, but ultimately kills,” Bakare-Oki warned, stressing that overspeeding endangers both drivers and other road users.
He further noted that road crashes during this period are not caused by mystical forces but by human recklessness, poor judgment, and disregard for traffic regulations.
