The Super Eagles of Nigeria have finally arrived in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, after an aircraft issue forced an emergency landing in Luanda, Angola.
The team was returning home on Saturday following their 2–1 victory over Lesotho in Polokwane, South Africa, when the ValueJet aircraft conveying them developed a cracked windscreen mid-air.
The incident occurred shortly after the plane took off from Luanda, where it had stopped for routine refuelling. The aircraft was forced to return to the airport for safety checks.
After several hours of waiting for landing and clearance approval for a replacement aircraft, the Super Eagles eventually departed Angola and arrived at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, at about 8:05 a.m. on Sunday.
The Nigerian team will now focus on their crucial final 2026 World Cup qualifier against the Squirrels of Benin Republic on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Nigeria must win the encounter and hope South Africa fail to beat Rwanda to secure an automatic ticket to the World Cup.
