Three men — Wasiu Ayanyemi, 40; Ibrahim Adeniji, 49; and Oluwabunmi Owoyemi, 40 — were on Wednesday arraigned before an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman, leading to a miscarriage.
The defendants, whose residential addresses were not disclosed, were charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, breach of public peace, and assault occasioning harm.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Aminu Isaac, the incident occurred on May 8 at the Benson bus-stop area of Ikorodu. The accused allegedly assaulted Ms. Adejoke Olusoj, who was three months pregnant at the time, causing her physical harm and resulting in a miscarriage.
Isaac further stated that the trio also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
The alleged offences contravene Sections 411, 168(d), 173, and 245 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
Chief Magistrate B. A. Sonuga granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned until June 16 for further mention.
