In a dramatic enforcement of movement restrictions, security operatives on Saturday blocked vehicles and passengers from entering Lagos State at the Berger Bus Stop along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The development, which coincides with the local government elections holding across the state, left many commuters stranded at the city’s boundary. Heavily armed security personnel manned the checkpoint, turning back both commercial and private vehicles attempting to enter the metropolis.

The restriction of movement, which began at 6am and is expected to last until 3pm, was announced earlier in the week by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police. The directive aims to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the grassroots polls taking place across the 57 local government areas and local council development areas in the state.
Several passengers expressed frustration over the lack of information and the disruption of travel plans, especially those unaware of the restriction order. Some were seen alighting from vehicles to trek long distances in a bid to find alternative routes into the city.
The Lagos State Government has continued to urge residents to cooperate with security agencies and participate actively in the electoral process, stressing that the restriction is a necessary step to safeguard democracy and public safety.
