Justice S.M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court has convicted and sentenced a popular TikToker, Abubakar Ibrahim (a.k.a. G-Fresh), and musician, Hamisu Sa’id (a.k.a. Hamisu Breaker), for abusing Nigeria’s currency, the Naira.

The two were prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on separate one-count charges bordering on Naira abuse, in violation of Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.

According to court documents, Ibrahim was found guilty of spraying and stepping on ₦14,000 in ₦1000 denominations while dancing at Rahma Sa’idu’s shop in Tarauni Local Government Area in November 2024. Similarly, Hamisu Sa’id Yusuf was convicted for spraying ₦30,000 in ₦200 notes at a social event in Hadejia, Jigawa State.

Both defendants pleaded guilty to the charges when they were read to them in court.

Following their plea and evidence presented by EFCC counsel, Zarami Mohammed, Justice Shuaibu convicted and sentenced them to five months imprisonment each, with an option of a ₦200,000 fine.

Their prosecution marks another step in the EFCC’s ongoing enforcement of laws prohibiting the abuse of Nigeria’s currency.
