President Bola Tinubu on Friday declared that Nigeria’s economy has “turned the corner” following the reforms implemented by his administration over the past two years, assuring citizens that the benefits would soon become evident.

Speaking in Ibadan, Oyo State, at the coronation of Oba (Sen.) Abdul-Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, President Tinubu said the progress was possible because of the sacrifices and support of Nigerians.

“Today, I am honoured to bring the cheering news that our economy has turned around and there is now light at the end of the tunnel,” the President stated, thanking Nigerians for their patience and resilience.

Tinubu, who described the new Olubadan as a friend and political ally, praised him for his contributions to Nigeria’s democracy and resilience during his time as Oyo State governor. “I pray that you will live long and be celebrated as one of the rare leaders in history to ascend the throne of your forefathers,” he added.

The event, attended by top political leaders, traditional rulers, and dignitaries across Nigeria, also marked a symbolic end to years of disputes over Ibadan’s traditional institution.

Governor Seyi Makinde, who presented the staff of office and certificate to Oba Ladoja, said the coronation had put all rancour to rest. “All challenges associated with the Ibadan traditional institution are now over. The process is now sacrosanct,” he declared.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Ladoja described his ascension as a journey of destiny, thanking God, President Tinubu, and the people of Ibadanland for their support. “It is not by power, influence, connection, or money that we are here today,” he said.

Among dignitaries present were Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun). Former Governors Donald Duke, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Ibikunle Amosun, and Gbenga Daniel also attended.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III; the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade; and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, joined in celebrating the historic occasion.

President Tinubu was accompanied by Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji.
