President Bola Tinubu has officially launched the distribution of 2,000 tractors and 9,072 specialized agricultural implements under the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme in Abuja.
The mechanisation initiative is a critical component of the administration’s broader strategy to boost food production, enhance agricultural productivity, and ensure national food security.
This milestone follows President Tinubu’s September 2024 approval of a landmark contract valued at $117.83 million and ₦28.43 billion for the procurement of tractors, machinery, spare parts, and other agricultural equipment for the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM).
The contract also included a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global agricultural equipment manufacturer John Deere to supply Nigeria with approximately 2,000 tractors annually for the next five years. The first batch of equipment, now delivered, has been officially commissioned.
The agricultural assets unveiled under the programme include:
- 2,000 tractors
- 9,072 implements, including:
- 500 80HP 2-wheel drive tractors
- 500 80HP 4-wheel drive tractors
