President Bola Tinubu has approved a significant reduction in the cost of kidney dialysis in federal hospitals, bringing the fee down from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000 per session.

The President’s Special Adviser on Policy and Information, Daniel Bwala, disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Monday, describing the move as a major relief for Nigerians battling kidney-related ailments.

According to him, the subsidy has already taken effect in key federal hospitals across the six geopolitical zones. Benefiting facilities include the Federal Medical Centres in Ebute-Metta, Jabi, Owerri, Abeokuta, and Azare; University College Hospital, Ibadan; Lagos University Teaching Hospital; University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital; University of Benin Teaching Hospital; and University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.

Bwala noted that more federal medical centres and teaching hospitals will be added before the end of the year to expand access nationwide.

He also recalled that President Tinubu had earlier approved free caesarean sections for pregnant women in federal hospitals as part of efforts to improve maternal health and reduce preventable deaths.

“These interventions demonstrate the Renewed Hope Agenda in action, ensuring that no Nigerian is denied healthcare because of cost,” Bwala stated.
