A fatal accident occurred in the Ketu area of Lagos on Monday night, resulting in the death of a Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) official. The accident involved a minibus colliding with a parked LAWMA truck.
According to Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the incident occurred at approximately 11:59 pm.
Preliminary investigations suggest that reckless driving on the part of the minibus driver and carelessness by the parked LAWMA truck contributed to the accident.
The minibus, with registration number AGL 97 YK, struck the LAWMA official, who was performing his duties at the time. Unfortunately, the official succumbed to his injuries before the arrival of emergency responders.
The minibus driver sustained significant injuries and received immediate medical attention.
Both vehicles involved in the accident suffered damage, with the LAWMA compactor truck experiencing minor damage and the minibus’s front section and cabin severely damaged. Safety measures were implemented during the recovery operation to prevent secondary incidents.
The affected LAWMA compactor truck has been moved to the Ketu Police Station, and all accident vehicles have been removed from the road, which is now clear and safe for vehicular movement. The recovery operation has been concluded, according to LASEMA officials.
