Tragedy struck the academic community of Kogi State University, Anyigba, as one of its senior lecturers, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, was reported dead after an alleged intimate encounter with a 200-level student.
Dr. Ibikunle, a respected but widely regarded strict lecturer in the Faculty of Education, was found lifeless in a hotel room where he had checked in with a female student said to be studying Social Studies Education.
Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the lecturer, a married man with children, had booked the hotel room three days prior, accompanied by the young woman, believed to be of Ebira descent. Witnesses allege that Dr. Ibikunle had consumed several energy drinks before the encounter, purportedly to enhance performance.
The first round of intimacy reportedly went without incident. However, tragedy struck as the lecturer collapsed just as the second round was about to begin. An alarm was raised, and the hotel staff immediately contacted emergency services.
The female student involved has since been taken into police custody for questioning. While she maintains she has no knowledge of what caused Dr. Ibikunle’s death, police say they are investigating the possibility of foul play, including the potential for poisoning.
Meanwhile, news of Dr. Ibikunle’s sudden death has gone viral among students, with many reacting online with mixed emotions. Social media platforms were flooded with memes and comments, some celebrating the demise of a lecturer students perceived as excessively strict.
The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the incident and assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the actual cause of death.
As at the time of this report, the university has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
