The Women Empowerment and Climate Resilience Initiative (WECRI), in partnership with the Agile Governance and Climate Engagement (PACE) Programme and led by Bridge That Gap (BTG) Initiative, has stated that it has started a project to raise climate change awareness in Kaduna State.
The group said the project would educate communities, train journalists, distribute 50 energy-efficient cook stoves to women, plant 2,000 trees, and run radio programmes while conducting baseline assessments.
According to the Executive Director of, BTG initiative, Gloria Bulus, the initiative aims to reduce deforestation, lessen the pressure on women who rely on firewood, strengthen climate governance, and encourage sustainable practices for future generations.
They disclosed on Wednesday that the six-month pilot would start after engaging traditional rulers and seeking their support.
The project will cover Chikun, Zango Kataf, and Zaria Local Government Areas in Kaduna State.
The team said it would train women as advocates, collaborate with local councils, allocate open fields for tree planting, distribute stoves, and monitor their use to ensure lasting results.
