The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA)  has publicly criticised former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal’s recent assertion that the North’s Political Consultative Group has embraced the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) as its preferred partner for the 2027 elections.

It noted that Lawal had since become a senior figure within the ADC, had informed reporters that the North-ADC alliance was already sealed.

The assembly argued that treating the entire Northern region as a political pawn undermined genuine democratic consultation.

It maintained that any decision of such magnitude had to be reached only after wide-ranging discussions with traditional rulers, youth representatives, and other key stakeholders across the region.

NEYGA’s spokesman, Ibrahim Musa, issued a written statement on Sunday explaining that the rebuttal followed Lawal’s announcement at the close of the 3rd Expanded Meeting of the National Political Consultative Group (North), which had been held in the Ladi Kwali Hall of the Abuja Continental Hotel.

In that statement, Musa described Lawal’s claim as a complete fabrication and urged all Nigerians to disregard it.

He emphasised that only true patriots, rather than opportunists seeking personal power, could speak for the North, and he warned that the region would not be railroaded into any political misadventure by those who viewed it merely as a stepping stone to higher office.
