At least 10 passengers were injured in a multiple-vehicle accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Wednesday, while emergency responders prevented a possible train collision at Ilupeju Bypass.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the bridge crash occurred in the morning when a commercial bus stopped to repair a faulty tyre and was hit by another bus.

A trailer subsequently rammed into the second bus before fleeing the scene.

LASEMA said emergency responders administered first aid to the injured passengers before evacuating them to hospital for treatment. The affected section of the bridge was later cleared and reopened to traffic.

In a separate incident at Ilupeju Bypass, emergency responders removed a broken-down commercial bus from a railway track with the assistance of a light tow truck, averting a possible collision with an approaching train.

The agency said its response team was deployed to manage the situation and ensure safety.

LASEMA urged motorists to avoid repairing vehicles on highways and bridges, advising them to maintain their vehicles regularly to prevent accidents.

It also encouraged residents to call its emergency hotlines, 767 or 112, whenever urgent assistance is required.
