A coalition of stakeholders in Surulere has rejected the move by Desmond Elliot to seek a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, under the Surulere Accountability Forum, made its position known in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Olanrewaju Badmus. It criticised Elliot’s performance over his three terms, citing weak policy contributions, limited constituency projects, and a failure to address pressing local issues.
According to the forum, a broad cross-section of the community—including youth groups, business representatives, and civil society organisations—reviewed the lawmaker’s record and found it lacking in impact and innovation.
Badmus stated that the constituency has experienced stagnation rather than measurable progress, adding that leadership should remain accountable and responsive to the evolving needs of residents.
The group also dismissed claims that its stance was influenced by recent political developments, insisting it was driven by a commitment to better representation. It called for fresh candidates with new ideas to address challenges such as infrastructure decay, youth unemployment, and inadequate primary healthcare.
However, the development comes amid contrasting views within the constituency, as some residents and party stakeholders recently staged a rally in support of Elliot, urging party leaders to adopt him as the consensus candidate based on what they described as his impactful representation.
