President Bola Tinubu has appealed to Nigerians to mark the Christmas season with moderation, urging citizens to avoid excessive alcohol consumption and any behaviour that could put lives at risk.
The President made the call on Sunday during a visit by Eyo festival organisers to his Lagos residence, an event that formally signalled the build-up to the upcoming Eyo festival.
The delegation was led by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside other custodians and adherents of the revered Eyo tradition, a cultural festival observed in Lagos every eight years.
Tinubu who had his wife and first lady, Oluremi as company emphasised that the festive period should be characterised by peace, unity and shared responsibility, warning that reckless celebrations could undermine public safety and social harmony.
Encouraging Nigerians to celebrate with care and consideration for others, the President said the season should bring joy without violence or loss of life, adding that everyone must see themselves as part of one national family.
