Fresh details have surfaced following the release of Nollywood actress Doris Ogala by the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos, revealing a dramatic turn in which Pastor Chris Okafor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries, also known as Grace Nation Liberation City, allegedly knelt before the actress and pleaded for peace.
Ogala’s ordeal took a dramatic twist after she was rearrested in Abuja shortly after being granted bail. Police officers from the Zone 2 Command reportedly took her into custody and transported her to Lagos, a development that sparked widespread public outrage and renewed scrutiny of the case.
Tensions escalated during the arrest when Ogala’s lawyer, Marshal Abubakar, was allegedly attacked by police officers while attempting to record the operation. Sources said his mobile phones were seized, and Ogala was subsequently flown to Lagos without access to her legal counsel.
Her eventual release was secured through the intervention of the Take It Back (TIB) Movement. A coordinator of the group, Jamiu Towolawi, popularly known as Jharmo, arrived at the Zone 2 Command in Lagos, stood surety for the actress and demanded her immediate freedom.
A source familiar with the development said Towolawi insisted that Ogala be released without further conditions, citing concerns over due process and her health.
It was after the release process had commenced that the most dramatic moment reportedly unfolded. Pastor Okafor, said to be central to the controversy that led to Ogala’s arrest, allegedly met her privately at Onikan, Lagos, where he knelt and begged her to allow peace to prevail.
According to the source, the cleric’s action followed Ogala’s refusal to back down from her allegations, prompting what was described as a desperate appeal for reconciliation. The private meeting reportedly lasted nearly an hour, with no third parties present.
Following the closed-door discussion, the police released Ogala on what was described as “health grounds,” with Towolawi remaining her surety.
The police also returned the two phones seized from Ogala’s lawyer. However, officers reportedly demanded that a video of the arrest be deleted — a condition that was firmly rejected by the TIB coordinator. Ogala was thereafter allowed to leave without further restrictions.
The dispute between the actress and the cleric centres on allegations that Pastor Okafor reneged on a promise to marry her. Through her lawyers, Synergy Law Partners, Ogala has issued a demand letter seeking ₦1 billion in damages for breach of promise and aggravated emotional harm.
Ogala claims the relationship began in 2017 when she approached the pastor for spiritual counselling. She alleges that she relied on his assurances of marriage to make major life decisions, including leaving a troubled marriage and entrusting him with ₦45 million.
Her legal team insists it possesses extensive evidence to support the claims, including photographs, videos, messages and banking records.
Although Pastor Okafor has reportedly made moves toward reconciliation, the legal battle remains unresolved. Ogala has not withdrawn her claims, and the demand letter is said to have given the cleric 21 days to respond before further legal action is initiated.
