Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, has urged students across the state to approach the new academic session with renewed hope, determination and confidence.
Hamzat made the call in a statement issued on Sunday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Tunde Alao, as learners, teachers and school administrators resumed for the new academic year.
He described education as the foundation for building a stronger and more prosperous Lagos, noting that what happens in classrooms today will shape the future of the state.
“To every learner returning to school, welcome to a new beginning and new possibilities. Dream boldly, study diligently and believe in yourself,” he said.
The deputy governor urged students to remain focused on their studies, stressing that their learning and personal development would influence their future opportunities and achievements.
“The future you desire begins with what you learn today,” he said.
Hamzat also commended teachers for their dedication and sacrifices, describing them as indispensable partners in developing Lagos’ human capital.
He said teachers play a crucial role in shaping young minds, encouraging learners and identifying their individual talents.
“We celebrate our teachers and appreciate the enormous responsibility they carry,” he said.
The deputy governor called for stronger collaboration among government, parents, educators, communities and the private sector to improve education delivery across the state.
He stressed the importance of ensuring that every child has access to quality, technology-driven and future-ready education capable of preparing them for changing global realities.
According to him, such collaboration would help build an education system that equips students with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to confront future challenges.
Hamzat wished students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders a peaceful, productive and successful academic year.
“Our children are our greatest investment. The Lagos of tomorrow is already sitting in our classrooms today. Let us give them every opportunity to succeed,” he said.
