The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed that a fully loaded Mack 40-foot containerised truck fell on the Ojuelegba Bridge inward National Stadium, Surulere, on Wednesday, causing major traffic disruption.
The Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, who confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the container blocked the entire roadway while the truck was descending the bridge, preventing vehicular movement.
He stated that no casualty was recorded in the incident.
According to Adebayo, all vehicles coming from Fadeyi and Onipan have been diverted through the service lane at Ojuelegba, connecting to Barracks and Funso Williams Avenue, to ease congestion.
He added that LASTMA officials were already on ground with the necessary equipment, coordinating emergency and recovery operations to ensure the safe and prompt evacuation of the fallen truck.
“In the meantime and pending the conclusion of the evacuation, motorists are advised that the Ojuelegba Bridge inward the National Stadium has been temporarily closed to vehicular traffic,” he said, assuring that further updates would be provided.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has also confirmed that no casualty or death was recorded after a train collided with a Toyota Hiace bus on Monday night at Arena, Oshodi, Lagos.
LASEMA disclosed this in a preliminary report issued by its Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, dated December 23, 2025.
The agency said it immediately activated the state’s emergency response plan from its Cappa Base in Oshodi and deployed a response team to the scene following distress alerts.
