Former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Obi made the declaration on Wednesday, December 31, in Enugu, alongside several political leaders from the South-East geopolitical zone. The announcement was made in Enugu, the state capital.
According to Obi and the South-East leaders, the decision followed months of consultations and engagements. They said the move to the ADC was aimed at building a united front with other opposition figures across the country.
The leaders stated that the coalition’s objective is to “rescue Nigeria from poor governance” under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that the ADC platform would provide a broader structure for collaboration ahead of future elections.
