The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that new ward and local government executives emerged through consensus in all 20 Local Government Areas of Lagos State.
Chairman of the APC Ward and LGA Congress Committee for Lagos, Mr. Karounwi Oladapo, disclosed this on Saturday after monitoring the exercise in council areas including Ojo, Surulere, and Kosofe.
Oladapo, who led other committee members deployed from the party’s National Secretariat, said the congresses were conducted in strict compliance with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.
“We monitored the Ward Congresses on Wednesday and the Local Government Congresses today. We are very satisfied with the process,” he said. “The uniqueness of Lagos was evident. The groundwork already laid by the Local Organising Committee made our job easier.”
He noted that the congresses were peaceful across the state, describing the atmosphere as “carnival-like,” with issues resolved ahead of voting and executives affirmed through consensus in accordance with party guidelines.
“In all the LGAs we visited, new executives emerged through consensus arrangements, and affirmations were carried out in line with legal requirements. It is a resounding success,” Oladapo added.
He praised party leaders and delegates for their maturity and peaceful conduct, assuring that the committee would submit an accurate report of the exercise to the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
Also speaking, the Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, commended party members for demonstrating unity and discipline during the congresses.
He conveyed the satisfaction of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu with the conduct of the exercise and urged the newly elected executives to prioritise unity and mobilisation ahead of future elections, particularly the 2027 general polls.
“We must sustain this spirit of togetherness. Leadership comes with responsibility. The Woman Leader, Youth Leader and other officials must mobilise effectively for the success of the party,” Ojelabi said.
Reports indicate that delegates in Ojo, Surulere, and Kosofe LGAs affirmed the election of 27 executives each through consensus, a pattern replicated across the remaining LGAs. The executives will steer party affairs at the grassroots level for the next four years.
The exercise was monitored by security agencies, including the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Lagos State Neighbourhood Watch, as well as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Party stakeholders in Agege and Ifako-Ijaiye LGAs also described the congress as peaceful and seamless. The immediate past Chairman of Agege LGA, Mr. Ganiyu Egunjobi, and other party chieftains commended the leadership of the party for ensuring a smooth process, expressing confidence that the APC would record further successes in 2027.
