Residents of Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area have thrown their weight behind the council’s decision to impose an indefinite ban on tricycles, popularly known as “Marwa,” following a wave of cult-related killings in the Orile community.

The restriction was announced after an extensive stakeholders’ security meeting convened in response to the violent clashes, in which tricycles were reportedly used to carry out attacks. At least seven people have been killed since rival cult groups began deadly confrontations in Orile a few months ago.

Speaking in separate interviews, residents said the persistent violence had disrupted socio-economic activities and created an atmosphere of fear across the area. Many described the situation as unbearable, noting that businesses and daily routines were severely affected.
They urged the council authorities to sustain the crackdown in collaboration with security agencies, stressing the need to arrest and prosecute those responsible for the killings.

A source within the council, who was not authorised to speak publicly, said signs of calm are gradually returning to Orile following the announcement of the tricycle ban. The source added that the restriction would be lifted once peace and stability are fully restored.

In a statement, the council authority said the decision is part of broader efforts to strengthen security and maintain public order within the LCDA. It added that the Executive Chairman has directed security agencies to restore law and order in Orile and across the council area.
