The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed that emergency response operations are ongoing following a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Lagos airport.

In a comprehensive update issued on the incident, FAAN disclosed that coordinated firefighting, rescue and safety teams remain on ground to contain the situation and secure the facility.

According to the agency, a crane was successfully deployed to support rescue efforts at the Control Tower, leading to the safe evacuation of all fourteen persons initially trapped in the facility.
Six casualties — three males and three females — were recorded in the incident.

FAAN stated that all affected individuals are in stable condition, with one person transferred to the FAAN Headquarters Hospital for further medical evaluation.
As a precautionary measure, the sixth floor of the affected structure has been fully evacuated to aid ongoing emergency operations and reduce potential risks.

Preliminary findings from the Fire Service indicate that the fire originated from the server room on the first floor of Terminal 1. While the blaze in the departure hall has been largely brought under control, responders continue close monitoring to prevent any spread to adjoining sections of the terminal.

In line with established safety protocols, the airspace has been temporarily closed. The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) is currently working to establish a temporary Control Tower to facilitate the safe and timely restoration of airport operations.

FAAN reaffirmed that all emergency procedures were promptly activated and that it is collaborating with relevant agencies to safeguard lives, infrastructure and operational integrity. The authority assured the public that further verified updates would be communicated as more information becomes available.
