The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast cloudy and sunny weather conditions, with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall expected across several parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.
In its three-day weather outlook released in Abuja on Sunday, NiMet predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds over the northern region on Monday, with morning thunderstorms and moderate rains expected in parts of Taraba, Adamawa and Kaduna states.
The agency also forecast afternoon and evening thunderstorms over parts of Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba states.
For the North Central region, NiMet predicted morning thunderstorms and moderate rainfall over parts of Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory, with more rainfall expected later in the day across Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa and the FCT.
In the South, moderate morning rainfall was forecast over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Lagos and Bayelsa states, while thunderstorms and moderate rains are expected across the region later in the day.
For Tuesday, NiMet predicted morning thunderstorms over parts of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa and Taraba states, followed by rainfall across several northern states in the afternoon and evening.
The agency also forecast thunderstorms over parts of Niger, Kwara and the FCT in the North Central region, while light morning rains are expected in parts of Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Lagos and Rivers states. More widespread thunderstorms are expected across the South later in the day.
On Wednesday, NiMet predicted partly cloudy skies over the North, with chances of morning thunderstorms and light rains in parts of Bauchi, Jigawa and Yobe. Moderate thunderstorms are expected across the region later in the day.
The North Central region is expected to experience sunny skies with patches of clouds in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rains later in the day.
In the South, NiMet forecast a cloudy atmosphere with possible light morning rains over parts of Edo, Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across the region.
The agency advised residents to secure loose objects, warning that strong winds could precede thunderstorms in affected areas.
It also warned that persistent rainfall along coastal areas could trigger flash floods and advised motorists to avoid driving or wading through floodwaters, particularly during heavy rainfall.
NiMet further urged residents to disconnect electrical appliances during storms and stay away from tall trees because of the risk of falling branches.
Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to aid effective flight planning, while the public was encouraged to stay updated through the agency’s weather forecasts.
